On May 3rd, there will be an election to lower Slidell Memorial Hospital’s current mileage from 6.75 to 5.99. This is not a new tax and will actually lower your current property tax that goes to Slidell Memorial. 

Prior mileage was used to provide a new emergency room, a state of the art Heart Center, a Regional Cancer Center and most recently a new surgical tower. 

The May 3rd millage is dedicated to expanding comprehensive cancer services, increasing emergency room capacity, a new Women and Infant Center with the latest technology, & constructing a new Pediatric and Primary Care Outpatient Center. 

The goal of these improvements is to expand access to advanced medical care in the east St. Tammany community. 

SMH is NOT owned by Ochsner and remains a community hospital that is governed by an independent board of commissioners.
